The inaugural International Veterans Art Exhibition (IVAE18) showcases art by 18 veterans from seven nations. IVAE18 was originally displayed by the Australian National Veterans Arts Museum (ANVAM) alongside the Invictus Games Sydney 2018 from 20th to 27th October 2018 to both highlight and advance the universal engagement of veterans in the arts.

Veterans from all participating Invictus Games nations were invited to submit artworks, along with an overview of their service, to the inaugural international
exhibition. Following a curatorial selection process works by veterans from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Poland, Ukraine, United Kingdom and United States were chosen for IVAE18.

The curatorial process sought to showcase the diversity and richness of veterans arts. The exhibition showcases veteran stories through a range of mediums and service experience. The cultural diversity of veterans art is on display in IVAE18 with veterans bringing to their work their lived experiences of service including national pride, military service, post military experiences, creative processes and much more.

In developing IVAE18, ANVAM sought to be a leader in creating a global movement to unite and support veterans and families through arts engagement; to recognise and empower veterans through their stories; and create an enduring legacy highlighting the benefits of arts engagement.

Veterans have always explored their stories through the arts; capturing their own stories and lived experiences and to collaborate with others. The focus of Territory Tribute’s program of events commemorates Australia’s wartime history and honours those who have served. IVAE18 is a great companion to the International Military Writers’ Festival, a marquee event of Territory Tribute.

ANVAM is thrilled to be part of the Territory Tribute’s events program highlighting the Territory’s ongoing importance to the Australian Defence Force (ADF). AN- VAM’s exciting partnership with Territory Tribute further emphasises the growing interest in veterans arts.
