March to Art: Narratives

  • No Vacancy Gallery / QV 34-40 Jane Bell Lane Melbourne, VIC, 3000 Australia (map)

Narratives – Stories of events or experiences, real or imagined.

From prehistoric mark-making to contemporary creative practices, art and storytelling have a long association in human experience.

ANVAM’s Narratives exhibition is founded on the belief that veteran artists belong to a creative tradition of storytelling emanating from their encounter with some aspect of historical or contemporary military service. Whether a story is personal and never told before – or part of a long-standing narrative from national military heritage – veteran artists today are uniquely placed to inherit creative veteran traditions and express their own stories to all generations.

March to Art: Narratives features contemporary art work by fourteen artists, including commissioned works responding to the creative life and enduring art practice of veteran artist Guy Warren, a celebrated painter and national treasure now working in his sixth decade.

Curated by Bruce Copland.
